What is service charge added in the bills by the restaurants @ 10% on bill amount and on top of the bill amount plus service charge VAT @12.5% is charged!!! Whether service charge is central or a state tax? Why we pay almost 23% tax on actual consumption value!!! What I understand is this service charge is added by the hoteliers in lieu of tip being paid. However tip is a voluntary amount paid to the waiter and not a compulsion to pay. If such case imposing service charges by the restaurants is unethical practice as it is not an exchequers tax. All pizza centers and restaurants are cutting the pocket of the consumers and request a strict action if this is not a government charge. 23% taxes is extremely high and unjust.
