Today if you go to buy any package food item such as biscuits, chocolates, chips, cookies, bread.
The packaging is done in such a way that the price is kept comparable to competetors price. e.g. If you buy a pack of Biscuits from one manufacturer the weight is 166 gms whereas the same from another manufacturer is 171 gms. And the manufacturer simply prints a statement on the package which goes like "Non-standard size under the standards of weights and measures (packaged commodities) rules 1977" Why not have a standard size defined for such items so that the consumer can really compare the prices without having to arrive at a price/gm and then comparing. This way the competition would also be healthy and clean. I just don't understand how the goverment (Rule-makers) allow different manufacturer to just mention the statement given above and go-on with it. Consumer get's fooled in the end. |
