The privatization of Delhi’s power sector in 2002 and the unbundling of the Delhi Vidyut Board the same year led to the business power distribution to BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL). And there is another called North Delhi Power Limited under TATA that is NDPL. Among the three the two sections of BSES offer electricity distribution to nearly 22.6 lakhs of customers which is almost two third of delhi’s population. And the BSES Company has acquired liabilities, assets, proceedings and personnel of the Delhi Vidyut Board according to the terms and conditions that are contained in the Transfer Scheme.

BYPL distributes power to an area spread over 200 sq kms with a population density of 4230 per sq km. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL)
BRPL distributes power to an area spread over 750 sq. km with a population density of 1360 per sq km. It supplies electricity to nearly 12.2 lac across the 19 districts that spread across the South and West areas of the Delhi that include places like Alaknanda, Khanpur, Vasant Kunj, Saket, Nehru Place, Nizamuddin, Sarita Vihar, Hauz Khas, R K Puram, Janakpuri, Najafgargh, Nangloi, Mundka, Punjabi Bagh, Tagore Garden, Vikas Puri, Palam and Dwarka.
Since the overtaking from the Delhi Government the BSES’s mission has always been to provide quality electricity and also customer service. The 3500 crore of investement made to upgrade the electricity system in Delhi has lead to peaceful power supply, easy billing process and payments. And from nearly 61% losses under DVB the loss has curtailed down to nearly 22.5 % with reduction rate of nearly 40%.
