My daughter had a horific experience today. She had a return ticket on W.Rly which was valid from Sat to Mon.which she bought on Sat 19th June. The tkt clearly said that it was valid till midnight of 21st.she bought a single ticket to go to Churchgate on 21st June * used the return tkt to come back. When she reached Bandra the T.C caught her after seeing the single ticket she had bought in the morning, saying that since she went this morning , she couldnt use the return tkt she had purchased on the 19th.I went to the station to rescue my daughter. I tried to argue, that no where on the tkt did it mention that it couldnt be used in such an event. Also I asked the TC what he would've done if she had thrown out the single tkt that she bought this morning? He said then the return tkt would have been valid. This is ridiculous! Once again truth never pays. In other words she was penalised for being truthful. No amount of explanation to the TC office helped solve the problem. I refused to pay the fine , saying that the rule was only mentioned in their rule books & no where for the public to see. They threatened to jail her & charge her in court. They then took us to the Railway police station. The inspector there also was shocked that the TC had caught her, but after having a private word with the TC , he coaxed us to pay the fine instead of getting into the nonsense of the court.I ultimately paid the fine only to get my daughter out of the agony. I hope to pursue this issue getting a refund for this madness.
