I have produced the cheque in my SBI bank for clearance on 4th of of Oct drawable @ any Citibank on 04/10/2010 of amount 39569.70/- which got bounced back on 08/10/2010 with the error message Encoding/Listing error.



On 05/10/2010, I have observed online that the amount menttioned against the clearance of my check is incorrect (mentioned as 19569.77) and immediatly visited the branch personally leaving my priority work as it is to inform about this. when I reached the bank, approached the staff who is responsible for clearing the checque, she said not to worry, I was not comforrtable and approached the service manager, He was very much ignorant and said, some where you have made a mistake while dropping the cheque. when I showed him the counter file of the slip he agreed and said, OK not a problem.

The cheque got bounced back with the error I mentioned above and then I went to the bank again, the lady who is managing cheque department and the service manager said, We do not know what the error message is, could be the problem is with the issuer go and get it corrected, service manager was no where thinking of other possibilities and not ready to listen to me about the issue I have mentioned on 05/10/2010.

I had tough time now as the cheque was issued by Morgan staney and had to call them to US multiple time for couple of weeks to sort this out. Since it was not their fault I had to almost beg for the investigation for which they agreed at last. After 2 weeks they came and reported that it is bacause the amount mentioned by SBI is incorrect.

I dropped the cheque again and got cleared atlast on 23/10/2010.

During this all episode, I had EMI bounce in my account due to not clearing this amount and I had to sell off my stocks to adjust this money which I commited to pay to somebody and had to visit bank requently leaving my personal and office work in trouble.


How can I take this forward as I had check bounce in my account and had to sell my shares for making arrangement for my oher commitments which I commited thinking that I will get this money after clearing the cheque.
