Default ICICI Bank Credit Card Fraud

    Sir,
This is to bring to your notice, that I am a victim of a credit card fraud, where by persons impersonating to be employees of ICICI Bank with good knowledge about me, took my credit card and have done a purchase in Noida and an ATM Withdrawal with the same. The ATM PIN, I am told was generated by ICICI Bank customer care on the 18th of April, on the day of the crime, and this for an unverified phone number.

I have at best tried to put my case to ICICI Bank, but to no avail, and hereby I have come here to put my case here.

Sir I had received a call from one person [+91-7838516692] on Saturday, 16 April 2011, posing as an employee of ICICI Bank, Dehradun.

He stated that I was being given an upgrade in my credit limit, and thus a new credit card will be issued. The person seemed to have good knowledge of the workings of the credit cards dept, and had a good knowledge about me.

He verified with me my details on file with ICICI Bank viz. Name, Registered cell phone number to which he had called, my home address and my business address, AND the last 4 digits of the credit card in question. He further added that I am to 'surrender' my old credit card to an employee who will collect it from my residence, at around 4:00PM. Other documents to be submitted were to be my ID proof, and a passport size photo of myself.

At around 3:00 PM the same day I got another call from another person [+91-8859372895] stating to be an employee, and inquired if he could come over to collect the card. The person who came made me sign a proper ICICI credit card application form, and attached my passport size photo on it. He took my ID proof also.

He took my card and he cut the card into 2 pieces, horizontally. On inquiring why he did not cut it vertically, he said that now they had the machine in Dehradun itself, where they can transfer the card information to the new card, else this will have to be sent to Chennai for processing, which could take a month.

He has since (mis)used my Credit Card at "M/s Electro World" Noida, UP for making purchase worth Rs. 24,990/- and Cash withdrawal of Rs.8,000/- from the ATM on Monday 18th, April 2001 for which I got an SMS at 6:05 PM for both transactions.

ICICI Bank, was informed of the misuse/fraud of the Credit Card immediately, and the same was intimated to the customer care also on the same day and the card had then been blocked to prevent future use.

I requested the customer care supervisor to block my card, and to file a chargeback on both the transactions immediately. I was assured that a chargeback would be done, but on my side I would have to file an FIR to the nearest police station; which I have done.

On talking with the customer care on on Wednesday 20th April 2011, I was told that the ATM PIN was generated on the 18th April itself. After which I requested I speak to a supervisor, Then I talked to customer care supervisor, to inquire further course of action as I had already filed an FIR. I was told that an inquiry is on, and I will be intimated on the same in 2 days time.

I had a talk again with on 22nd April 2011, to inquire about the status, and to be given an SR number. She was helpful in taking all the details down and gave me an SR number. She further assured me that ICICI Bank understands this is a fraud and that these charges would not be credited to my account, and I need not worry. I was suggested by her that I fax my case to the Fraud Dept Mumbai.

I had a talk with one Rupesh from the fraud dept Lucknow, who took my details down, and agreed that the degree of information they have is thoughtful, but again fell short of answering how they could manage to get this info. Again on asking as to why is ICICI Bank generating ATM PINs for unverified phone numbers, he was unable to give me a satisfactory response.

    Sir my points here being:

    1. These people had good knowledge about me, my home address, business address, my mobile number and more so the last 4 digits of my credit card number, which otherwise is not available anywhere else, these were at best ex-employees of ICICI Bank. My information with ICICI Bank has been misused against me.

    2. The ATM PIN ( as per customer care official, and from the Office of Ms. Chanda Kochar ) was generated by ICICI Bank on the 18th of April, 2011. This for an unveried phone number. It actually defeats the purpose of having a verfied phone number.

    3. furthermore, on any information change within my account, whether it be my phone or address, I always recieve an SMS stating changes to your profile had been updated. But when the ATM PIN was genrated, this for an unverified number, no intimation was given to me, either by SMS or email. I was not aware of the fraud till the time I recieved an SMS stating the purchase and the ATM withdrawal. Sir their own system fell short in protecting my interests.

Sir, Protecting my password and regularly changing my password is my domain, but if my bank issues my password to someone else, (to an unverfied phone number, perhaps based on a few questions), and does NOT even intimate me about it. it is not my fault. And it is here, as per my humble opinion, that my liability ceases to exist.

    4. Talking to customer care officials, I was assured that these charges would not be levied on me. Even the fraud dept Lucknow, was unable to answer my direct questions. The bank suddenly changed it stance, and requires me to pay up.

Following are my details pertaining to the case.

    SR number: SR-1744-99575
    Card number: 4**6010

I request your urgent help in the matter.

    Warm Regards,
    Jatin

    Hello,
my concerns have not been addressed to,

    1. These people had alot of knowledge about me, viz name, (registered) mobile number, home address, business address last 4 digits of my credit card number. my information with ICICI Bank was (mis)used against me. there is a visible security breach & data theft at ur end

    2. my cash limit is INR 8,000/= , and these people took out only INR 8,000/= in cash from the ATM,

    3. the ATM PIN was given by ICICI Bank to these people, to an unverified number, and this was NOT intimated to me, by SMS or email. Had i been intimated, i could have blocked the card then and there. and the fraud could have been averted.

i always get an SMS/ email on profile change! this is an unacceptable mistake at the banks end.

whether it be any other company from airtel to tatasky,... all dealings are done on a verified phone number. a sensitive information like a credit card PIN number was given to an unverified phone number. and now im being asked to pay for the banks fault?!!

This is precisely what im here to dispute.

Please advise further course of action.

ICICI Bank recalls hundreds of credit and debit cards after cloning scare - The Economic Times

CHENNAI: ICICI Bank is recalling hundreds of credit and debit cards after being warned by the Chennai city police that customers' data have been stolen. Officials from other banks - private and national - said they were also initiating similar steps.

On October 5, the city police had busted a card-cloning racket. Initially, they received complaints from 64 card users and the number has been increasing ever since.

"Apparently data of several people have been stolen and misused. We advise card users to change their PIN immediately ," said central crime branch deputy commissioner S Radhika.

this is precisely what ive been saying, there is data theft at ur end, where by these people had a whole loads of information about me,

they used this information against me to get my card,.

i request that this case be relooked into
