Angry Permanent Address details missing in Credit Card contact details of Hdfc bank

I am in the possession of credit card no. 5176 3511 0000 9376. which is given to me with the savings account no. 10971610002493. I used to receive the monthly bill in my Company mail id. However , after I left my Organisation, and the question of paying the bills just went out of my head which was a fault on my part.

This is a chennai- based credit card account which was given to me when I was working with an Organisation in chennai. I was given this card in Feb'09 after my permanent address verification was done which I had given as my Uncle's address in Puri.

I had a salary of Rupees 200,000/- per annum, however I got a credit limit of only Rupees 18000/-.What does the bank think they are doing?? Giving credit cards to customers or alms to beggars?? Is it just to fulfill their targets or do they have any service motive towards the customers??

However, The credit card department had only the local contact no.s of chennai in it's system and had not put up my permanent address details in its system although a credit card is a type of loan. And I think that purposefully the credit card department did not contact me at my permanent address till the interest amount was beyond rupees
ten thousand at least. My principal credit was Rupees 17000/- some odd and the interest was rupees rupees 10000/-.

    Be it any kind of loan, two wheeler loan, four-wheeler loan, personal loan, housing loan, credit cards which is a type of unsecured loan;firstly, how come the bank not put the permanent address details in the contact details in the system for the customer;

and Secondly; How come the bank take almost six months to track down my permanent address details.

On the 28th of June,2010, My uncle in Puri got a call from one Mr. Karthik, Mobile No.
+919841144099, and was threatened that if I Did not pay up rupees 1500/- by the next day, legal action will be taken against me and I might even be put into jail. I had deposited the same on the 29th , although at that time I was in Bangalore for my father's
treatment and he was in hospital.

Again there was another call on the 11th of July for the payment however which I did not make it then. Then they sent a telegram to my former address in bhubaneshwar on the 22nd of july stating immediate payment for the amount which fell into the hands of my former
landlord, which was a embarrassing situation for me and I just can't go into that locality right now with my head held high because of it.

Again, Mr. Karthik called up and this time my aunt picked the call who is a housewife and started to speak in English. In all probability, they should have transferred the case to the local credit card department and they should have communicated in the local language
instead of Mr. Karthik calling up in English from Chennai which is in itself a matter of mental harassment and panic for my aunt who is 50 and my uncle who is 55.

In the telegram, I was told to contact two people one Mr. Karthik and the other Mr. Johnson, mobile no. +9843069869. When I called up Mr. Johnson, I was told, Speak in tamil, no english. what kind of executives do the bank have who do not know how to behave with customers and who do not know even to speak in english.

When I lodged a complaint with Karthik, he handed the call to his Manager, Mr. Rajesh, Mobile no.+919382298194. In the telegram, I was being told that I had to pay up by the 24th of july. However I called up Karthik and told him that instead of 24th I would be paying on the 26th to which he agreed to as 24th was a saturday. However, his manager Mr. Rajesh sent a sms to me stating that I have to deposit by the 24th. Fyi, 24th of july was my birthday. Therefore, be it any kind of bill payment is the last thing that one would like to do on your birthday.I also smsed back the branch code as requested by Mr. Rajesh
and my email id as I did not want my uncle to be pestered and told him to send me a test mail of his mail id. Even my late night saturday as I did not get the mail, the next day I first tried Mr. Rajesh's no which was coming as not reachable till 12 noon . Then I tried
Mr.Karthik's no. and asked as what happened to the test mail. He had no answer.Twice he said he will get back. But after that neither Mr.Karthik nor Mr.Rajesh picked up my call just because I caught them on the wrong foot. and on monday 26th of july,2010 Mr. Rajesh tells me that he can't send mails from his official mail id. However he has sent me his personal mail id.

This is purely a case of negligence on part of the bank for not updating their system with my permanent address details and thereby increasing my interest rate by atronomical level. If the bank found out that I had not paid in the subsequent month and they were not able to contact me in the given local numbers, they should have immideately contacted at my given permanent address and left a message that so much amount is due and I have not paid up for the last one month or 45 days which the bank did not do which has resulted in both defamation and mental harrasment and panic for me and my family.

I would like to bring to the notice of the bank that "Caution" is a threatening word. what the bank could have done is requested me.I would like to invite the Moderator into the picture and ask for their advice on the issue as it is getting nasty. I would also like to like the views of those in the forum.

I would like to bring it to the notice of both the bank and the forum that after so many threatening calls now the bank has just sat silent for 5 days with no response from the end of the bank either at the forum or at my email id which is being given. When I called a number given by the bank some 5 days ago, again the behaviour was of threatening nature. The bank does not has the right to call the shots at all the time ie, whenever they want they will threaten and whenever they want they will sit silently.

I am really confused. On one hand the bank has asked time to resolve the issues raised by me and urged me to treat this delay by the bank as an exception, but on the other hand the recovery department today gave me a mail today in my personal mail id from customerservices.cards@hdfcbank.com stating that:

    Debt Contact Numbers:

    Chennai - (044) 23744002

These both are two contradictory statements given by the Officers of the same Bank. would like to bring it to the noticeof the forum that when I had called up on the above no. ie, 044-23744002, the behaviour was again threatening which I have already posted dated 08-03-2010.

I would Like to know what are the options I have in hand right now as the bank is a multi-faced person. which is the correct one is very difficult to find out. And And who is really in command the one answering in the forum or the recovery persons??

On 08-04-2010, The Bank's representative had asked for some more time to resolve issues raised by me and had said that they will revert back to me in three working days time. However, today is 08-07-2010 and the working hours of the banks have closed, but still I have not received any reply from the bank.

The bank gets really impatient if the money is not returned to them on time and do indulge in illegal practices like passing on the buck to the recovery agents. But what should we as customers should do when the bank does not responds on time and we get really impatient beacuse of it.Could someone please answer these questions of mine??

If the bank is non-responsive for the queries of the customers, on what basis do the bank have a right to ask the customers to respond to calls or emails or deposit dues in the first place??? The bank had asked me for three days on 08-04-2010, hoever there has been no reply from the bank even after 5 days. In the same way, they had contacted my permanent address after six months, this is the way in which the hdfc credit card department has been functioning.

on 08-04-2010 at 04:48 PM the bank representative had written to me that,

    " Dear Mr Goswami,

However it has been seven days that no reply has come through from the bank.Could someone please tell me that in such a situation what am I supposed to do, wait endlessly for the bank's reply or can I also take any action against the bank for being lenient in thier behaviour and also not even informing me ie, the customer for the delay in the reply on the part of the bank.

On one hand, the bank representative has asked me time and aslo mailed me about it, but when I had mailed Mr. Sunil Puri back on the Notifications and Guidelines as set by the Hdfc Governing body and the RBI, I haven't received a reply back from the talktous team. I had sent them the mails on the 10th of August,2010. However, there were calls received from the Recovery agents to my uncle.

First , answer my questions, then make the goddamn calls. if you have the guts then answer my questions at the earliest.

    @ Jaydevgoswami

Please mind your language. This forum does not have any authority over any bank or company and if a bank takes an initiative to resolve issues posted here its a bonus for us. I am not trying to justify any wrong doing by the bank if there is any but keeping it polite would not cost you anything and making the situation ugly wont make the resolution come through any quicker. This is not an all out match in a boxing rink.

We look forward to a satisfactory resolution from the bank.

@ administrator: One cannot clap with one hand, if you think that I am using foul language then, it is because the bank is flouting the rules set by the RBI, namely:

    1. FAIR PRACTICE CODE FOR CREDIT CARD OPERATIONS JANUARY 2006 for Hdfc Bank
    2. Guidelines on Fair Practices Code for Lenders, DBOD. Leg. No.BC. 104 /09.07.007/2002-03
3.Guidelines on Managing Risks and Code of Conduct in Outsourcing of Financial Services by banks
    RBI/2006/167DBOD.NO.BP. 40/ 21.04.158/ 2006-07
    4. Recovery Agents engaged by Banks RBI/2007-2008/296 DBOD.No.Leg.BC.75 /09.07.005/2007-08
    5. Master Circular on Credit Card Operations of banks RBI/2007-2008/32 DBOD.FSD.BC.17 / 24.01.011/ 2007-08.

I had sent all these details to Talktous@hdfcbank.com on Tue, Aug 10, 2010. However, No reply came bank from the bank on the same to me.If the bank expects me to pay up, they need to answer my queries and contact only those as told by me.Otherwise, it is going to be be even nasty and murky in the near future for sure.

    Regards,
    Jaydev Goswami
