This is to share a memorable plight I had in my recent travel to France by Qatar Airways.
I have travelled Paris this month during 7th Jan to 16th Jan, 2012. Moved by the marketing communication by Qatar airways I advised my agent to book my journey with Qatar airways. Accordingly, my journey was booked (Mumbai? Doha? Paris). I was scheduled to take QR201 for Mumbai?Doha sector on 7/1/2012 and QR 19 for Doha ? Paris sector (arrival in Paris on 13:10 on 7/1/2012. The journey from Mumbai to Doha was only abt 3 hrs.
On 7/1/2012 I boarded the plane and landed on Dammam airport (if I remember the name correctly) of Saudi Arabia instead of Doha. There we kept stranded for about 10-11 hours . The reason given was bad weather which I strongly feel is the imitation of truth. The plane landed in Saudi in the morning and left for Doha at around 4:00 PM. It was sunny for most of the part of the day. Even if, in the morning there was some fog, there was no acceptable reason for keeping us stranded for abt 10 hrs.
We reached Doha at around 5:00 PM ans they gave us a connecting flight to Paris next day at around 1:00 PM. Effectively there was a delay of around 30 hours. We reached Paris on 8/1/2012 evening.
At Damman and Doha Qatar officials harassed me sometime by asking for my passport and boarding pass and sometimes giving wrong information. We wanted some sort of compensation for the delay which affected me badly and I failed to attend a meeting which had severe implications. As per the misdirection given by the Qatar staff (Mr. Robert) at the Doha airport I went to the Qatar office at France where the executive told me as, the flight was from India to Paris I have to process my application for compensation at India office only.
My consumer complaint ref. No with Qatar Airways is CC Ref: IN369804. I wrote to them and they replied to me that as it was because of the weather problem they will not be paying any compensation for it. This is nothing but a lame excuse. We were halted at Damman airport for around 9-10 hours.If the weather condition in Doha was bad then during that time frame no flight should had departed or landed at Doha. That was not the case. There want to avoid taking responsibility and I feel cheated.
I request for appropriate action and compensation for the harassment
