I am an Airtel broadband user from New Delhi .
I have been using Airtel broadband since May 09. Initially I started off with plan 750 which allowed speed of 256 Kbps and free calls for Rs 150 to any numbers.
In April-May 10 I got a call from their sales people offering 4 Mbps speed with no free calls for Rs 899. As I was hesitant, the sales person told me that I could use the new plan for some time and if I don't like it I can revert back to my old plan whenever I wish. So I agreed to move to plan 899.
After using it for 3 months I found that I am not having much use for that plan. Therefore, I called up 121 to request a reversal to my old plan. At that time I was told that plan 750 has been discontinued and I can not be reverted to that plan. The options I was given were either plan 799 or plan 899 with speed of 512 and free call of Rs 200. Thus I was forced out of plan 750 and I had to opt for plan 899 as it allowed unlimited download at 512 mbps.. After a day while browsing the Airtel website to check up the tariffs I realized that the free landline calls of Rs 200 was applicable only for local Airtel to Airtel landline. I realized that I would hardly be able to use this benefit.
I called up 121 on 10/08/10 to ask for reversal to plan 899 which allowed 4Mbps with no free landline calls. At that time I was told that I have to remain with my existing plan for at least one week before I can be shifted from it. Therefore, I called up again on 17/08/10 with the same request. At that point I was told that both plan 799 and 899(4Mbps) had been discontinued. I am surprised at this because the website still contains these tariffs and they are even advertising for the 4Mbps/Rs 899 option in the local fm radio.
Besides the above-mentioned episode, I have personally experienced many other such instances with Airtel which doesn't leave any room for doubt that Airtel is upto cold blooded plans to bluff customers just to jack up their sales figures.
Sincerely
Subir Bhattacharya
