I recently visited a food outlet and after that when i reviewed the bill i noticed that. They have applied tax (12.5%) on the service charges (10% of the food bill) ... is this correct or they are cheating people?
Well, Tat depends on the outlet too.
Are you by any chance talking abt the poor part of india? I can vouch for this thing, it happens in bangalore/hyderabad and i think even Mumbai.
The VAT is being charged on Service charge as well.
Next they would charge Service charge on VAT too.
