My relative recently had a angiography done thro' Dr Thillai Vallal of Venkateswara Hospitals, Chamiers Road, Chennai 18. He had a horrowing experience. First this doctor had clearly told that maximum cost including some time in ICU/recovery post angio will be Rs.30000. On the day of Angio, the patient was sent in ambulance to nearby Kaliappa Hospital. After patient was shifted there, that Hospital said machine was not functioning and patient waited for nearly two hours, Even then the Doctor Thillai Vallal had not taken steps to arrange angio in alternate hospital. After my relative insisted, he was shifted back to Venkateswara and again in the evning, Angio was done in T Nagar Bharathiraja hospital.
Once angio was done, the patient was quiet normal but on return from Bharathiraja hospital, this doctor Thillai Vallal (he thought patients were vallals!) decided to use up ICU facility to ensure patient got charged. The patient was quiet normal, reading newspaper in ICU.
Next day morning, this doctor refused to discharge the patient, saying he has to undergo Bypass surgery in the hospital / doctor nominated by him otherwise, he will not be discharged.
After persisting and giving in to his demand, he produced a bill for Rs.60000 which mentioned all sorts of equipment having been used, bed charges for ICU,etc
Day light robbery almost indeed, Despite my relative being a pensioner, not having insurance, this doctor and hospital decided to rob the patient in unfair, inhuman way,
How to take up now and get justice, pls advise
ukk
