We had purchased a 42" LCD TV in Mid 2009 and unfortunately this TV manufacturer (state of the art LCD manufacturer) had tied up with Airtel Digital TV to give free Set Top Boxes to customers who purchase the LCD. Once there is such a free gift, customers naturally feel it is a value add that they could make use of. We thought so too.
But our trouble started with Installation: Installation was delayed by 11 days despite logging several complaints of delay.
Once installed, we faced the uphill task of getting channels of our choice, we purchased recharge of 1000 and spoke with customer care of Airtel Digital. It took them over a span of 19 days to give us activation of the channels of our choice.
This was just the beginning.
Due to poor response of Airtel digital, we stopped recharging the Airtel Digital set top box, and continued watching our smaller 29" tv that has a Tata Sky connection: Superb Service, Great Product.Before the onset of Worldcup Football in June 2010, due to a busy schedule at work, we could not get time to call tata Sky to get us another Set top box for our LCD TV and as a result, I had to purchase a recharge card for Airtel digital connection to be reactivated (this was an easier option as this set top box was already connected to our LCD)
We purchased recharge card of 1000rupees on 12th June, recharge done via sms, we started our calls to Customer service of Airtel Digital TV for ESPN channel to be activated. though after 2 hours of trying to get an untrained Customer Service personnel, Mr Ram, to understand our requirement, we got the channel activated somehow on 12th June.
on 14th June the connection was deactivated and messages on our phones said, there was a negative balance against our account...
We approached customer care of Airtel Digital TV again on 18th June at 9 am (could not contact earlier due to our workload) and spoke with Ms Sandhya: Supervisor.. Sandhya assured me that our problem will be resolved, apparently the code for the top up channel we had smsed for turned out to be the code for some mega package and therefore, our account was deactivated.
After a long wait till 9 pm on 18th June, we contacted customer care again, this time we were told that due to technical problem, they can resolve our complaint only the next day by noon. On this call, I had spoken to a different Supervisor this time.
After waiting till noon on 19th June, we contacted customer care, this time we were on the phone for another 2 hours trying to explain the problem again. Spoken to Team leader at customer care who assures again that the problem will be resolved.
Our service is of course yet to resume as of 5pm today that is 19th June.
We are avid football fans and we have missed out on the pleasure of watching important matches on a larger screen in the comfort of our home because of your company's poor product and non existent tech support that would help in customer service. I would not blame the individuals who had attended our calls, they are only doing what is told to them. It is the airtel digital product that deserves to be in trash.
The CEO of Airtal Digital, Ajay Puri should take some time to check on the net: as to the number of customer complaints that have been written by the consumers. There are several complaints when you google on Airtel digital tv Complaints
We think Ajay Puri and Airtel Digital company should take the responsibility for developing a poor product:
1. installation time lag (several customer complaints on this subject are listed when you google on Airtel digital TV complaints)
2. time taken to activate channels (what kind of technology is it that requires a customer to keep the set top box on for hours together to get a channel activated?)
3. confusing the consumers with multiple packages (not customer focussed at all)
4. excessive focus on selling packages, rather than solving the customer's problems
The above clearly reflects the self serving nature of this company and their top management.
I want a written apology from the CEO's mail id and a suitable compensation for what we have gone through.[/FONT]
