Hi

I have purchased a Flat in Jan, 2008 from Builder. Builder charged me as well as from others around 1.20 lacs as a interest free possible service tax deposit.

As per my knowledge the service tax is applied from July, 2010. I called builder to discuss the matter and he replied that service tax is not applicable but the government now charged VAT.

Any idea whether this is applicable or not? If yes then what is the % amount. If not then how can I get back my money.

I am expecting something practical response. I have got many other advices, which were open ended from all side.
