The buzz of the mosquito is growing louder by the day; repellents areburning holes in family budgets. And, with the city's residentsfighting a losing battle with the winged predators, they are wishingthe government and civic groups will start doing something soon toaddress the root causes of the problem. Use of coils, mats, sprays ornetting the windows at home are temporary measures.
The promise of a good water year -- with the full reservoirs -- hadresidents heaving a sigh of relief after the last monsoon. But nothingreally prepared the residents for the onslaught of mosquitoes over thepast six months. Mosquitoes have replaced water as the biggest civicproblem.
Successive governments have outlined grand plans for mosquito control, and the GHMC has succeeded in bringing down the number of malarialcases in the recent past, but that is just one part of the story.and the GHMC has succeeded in bringing down the number of malarialcases in the recent past, but that is just one part of the story.
Nearly 90 per cent of the mosquitoes in the city breed in draineagewater. Just look at the draineg water flowing just beside Ramchandratheater & drainege water flowing on the main road of West AnandBagh(just before lane going to Urjitah Apartments)
Use of coils, mats, sprays or netting the windows at home aretemporary measures.
Now we request the GHMC to commence immediately spraying of pesticides in and around West Anand Bagh on a large scale and on a regular basis atleast once in week.
Anand Bagh Residents Association,
