Dear Sirs
We are NRIs from Dubai and recently came to India to visit the famed Tajmahal. During our course of visit, we went to a shop called UP Handicrafts and Handlooms Center outside the main Taj Mahal gate, bearing a TIN No. of 09502400752. From the net we found out that it belongs to one Mr Pawan Agarwal.
We purchased goods worth RS 15000/= vide two receipts;
1) book No. 09 and S.No. 885 - value 4100 (Items Tajmahal - Rs 3500 and Ganesha Rs. 600)
2) Book No. 13 and Serial No. 606 value (items 1 carpet - Rs 2500 and 6 pairs of foot wear - Rs. 6700)
We have following compplaints;
1) Throughout the selling process, the sales people convinced us that the shop belongs to the U.P. STATE GOVERNMENT and that it is NOT a private company.
2) We were informed that the same retail outlet has branches in Bangalore also.
Thus we were convinced that we are buying from an authentic shop of the government. We took the Tajmahal scuplture made of marble and Ganesha murthy back with us to Bangalore. These were pre-packed and again they convinced that the material inside are so safe that you could carry it anywhere in the world.
However, when we reached Bangalore, we found out that the Tajmahal Sculpture was broken. We were shocked as there was no chance that it could have happened during our journey from Agra to Bangalore as we travelled by Air and kept the packed bag with us. Also, there was no exrternal damage to the packing at all.
When we approached to the said shop in Banglore to explain about the broken sclupture, the genteman in the shop informed us that they are not part of any other shop from AGRA. They also informed us that they have received a lot of complaints like this before also but they can not help.
We are approarching you not because of the value of the ware but because these kind of people bring very bad reputation to our country, government as well as honest shopkeeprs. The tourists get cheated constanttly by these unscruplous elements.
The government is turning blind eye to such incidences due to corruption but the CFI should not and we request you to kindly suggest us our next step so that we could teach these dishonest shopkeepers a strong lesson. Thank you, Venkatesh.
